“American Idol” Improv Competition

By Chris Thompson • September 20th, 2008

IO Improv and Ultimate Improv are putting together a city-wide improv tournament for the networks. It is a 15 week show that is structured like American Idol. Each week the improvisors will perform in front of three judges for an hour and at the end of the show one person is eliminated. We start with 20 performers, 10 on Monday night, 10 on Tuesday night and we go until only one performer remains. That person will win $500 and meetings with the heads of casting from NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX. It is a great opportunity for the performer and the theater they represent. Forward this email to your teams and players so that we can truly cast the widest net possible for the show. Also, the show has three judges and we are asking theaters to nominate one of their teachers, artistic directors or coaches to serve as judge for one week. “My hope is to build on the feelings of community we have every year at the LA Improv Festival and to raise the awareness of the talent that we have at each of our theaters.”

LA’s Best Improvisor Lead / Male / Female / All Ethnicities / 16 - 50 years Description:

This is an open call for an improv show called the “X-ecution.” The “X-ecution” is an American Idol-like show in which both the audience and a panel of experienced improvisors vote a performer out every week, Mondays and Tuesdays at 11pm. We start with 20 performers (10 on Monday and 10 on Tuesday) and eliminate one per show until there is only one left. If you are selected for this show, you are committing to a 15-week run/one night a week. After the first 5 weeks, when there are 10 “convicts” left (5 from Monday night and 5 from Tuesday), the action moves to a single slot, Monday nights at 8pm, until only one remains.
