Back Fence Storytelling Event - Dec. 10th

By Lab Manager • November 30th, 2008

Back Fence PDX, a raucous evening of storytelling featuring live, true stories from PDX people, would like to invite you to their December event, Rock the Bells at The Mission Theater in Northwest Portland.

On December 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mission Theater, 1624 N.W. Glisan St., Back Fence PDX will take the stage with local musicians Gideon Freudmann, Adam Shearer, Nick Jaina and others telling unmemorized, true eight-minute stories based on the theme, Rock the Bells. Tickets are $9 online or $10 at the door, and can be purchased at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/48514.

Presenting the storytellers:

Gideon Freudmann is a member of indie cello orchestra The Portland Cello Project as well as an innovative solo musician. He even created his own style of music, CelloBop, a fusion of blues, jazz, folk and other music. He can be found writing scores for silent films, performing on NPR and generally rocking out on the cello.

Adam Shearer is the lead singer of the folksy, orchestral band Weinland. A regular contributor to Willamette Week’s Tour Diary, Shearer has also spent the last six years working with emotionally disturbed teenagers.

Nick Jaina previously worked as a waiter in the French Quarter before moving in 2001 to Portland. He has since contributed his songwriting to bands such as Horse Feathers, Menomena and Loch Lomond. He most often plays as a solo artist with a seven-piece band, sometimes taking his show outdoors to play on city streets.

Danny Seim is the drummer for Menomena and All Smiles and the brains behind Lackethereof, a side project he describes as “emotronic.”

Al James writes the songs, sings the songs and drives the van for Dolorean, a five-piece indie/country group based out of Portland.

Joan Hiller Depper, owner of Riot Act Media, a boutique publicity firm that expertly launches proactive, communication-based, successful, artist-friendly campaigns for clients in the independent music and arts worlds through their offices in Austin, TX and Portland, OR.

Lisa Marsicek AKA Miz Kitty from Miz Kitty’s Parlor, a Vaudeville, Novelty Show and Revusical, and The Flat Mountain Girls, an old-time string band.

Intermission entertainment by Katie Jean Arnold.
